"Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do."
- Brene Brown
As a child, I had a particular fascination with palm trees, sunny beaches, and tropical foliage. I attribute this to my desire for warm weather during the frigid northeast winters, as these forests were not a part of the local climate. In hindsight, these trees became a sort of representation of peace and calmness for me. They stood as a reminder of complete relaxation while lounging on a beach in the shade of mighty palm frond, listening to the quite lull of the waves hitting the shore. This visualization stuck with me into adulthood and was a "happy place" I could quickly transport myself to when I became overwhelmed. I now strive to help others find healing as they search for relief from anxiety, panic, ADHD, phobias, or sleep problems. From this idea sprung the concept of Oasis Therapy Center, where I help others reclaim their peace and their refuge.
After obtaining my bachelors of arts degree in psychology at American University in Washington DC, I conducted research in cognitive assessments at Stanford University in California. I returned to the east coast for graduate school at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where I received my masters and doctorate in Clinical Psychology & Behavioral Medicine. Prior to receiving my doctorate, I completed my predoctoral APA-accredited internship at the Maryland Veterans Affairs - U of M School of Medicine Psychology Consortium in Baltimore, Maryland. I have completed clinical rotations in a diverse range of settings, including community outpatient clinics, academic medical centers, private practices, and Veterans Affairs hospitals. Throughout my training, I cultivated an interest in how anxiety impacts the brain and obtained comprehensive training in anxiety treatments. I had the pleasure of gaining experience with a diverse array of clients, and continue to have a passion for serving traditionally-disenfranchised populations as well as the BIPOC (Black, indigenous, and people of color) community. My research on some of these topics can be found here.
I currently operate using a cognitive approach in my therapy practice and believe that individuals can find immense healing by understanding the connections between their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Elements of acceptance (ACT) techniques as well as dialectical (DBT) techniques are incorporated, when appropriate. I believe in approaching our work together from a client-centered, strengths-based, transdiagnostic lens with an understanding of cultural influences for each individual. The relationship between me and you is critically important in our counseling journey together; I work to create a space where you can feel both accepted and challenged. I find great joy in fostering these connections with others and in helping those with anxiety, ADHD, panic, phobias, and insomnia in Baltimore and throughout Maryland via counseling services.
In my daily life, my interests include my wonderful dog, traveling to new countries, physical fitness, hiking, spending time in nature, and watching documentaries.
